Never give up

Today I had planned to post on another topic, but the truth is that everyone is talking about what happened yesterday in the European Cup semi-finals.

I am not a big football fan, but I think that what happened last night in the match between Real Madrid and Manchester is, at least, worthy of comment. I do not want to go into footballing aspects, because the truth is that I’m not an expert, but I do want to talk about the fact of not giving anything for lost (or won) until the end.

To put it in situation, Real Madrid, with one minute to go, was losing and needed two goals to tie the match. The result? They ended up winning the match and thus reaching the final. The conclusion we can draw is quick, we must never give up or give anything up for lost or won until the end.

No one says it’s easy, no one says it will always work out, but I once heard that a “miracle is that thing that happens all the time” and the truth is that it’ s right. If we look around us, we can see things we never thought possible. Not all of us can say that we have reached a European Cup final in this way, but we don’t have to. It’s driving up to the door of the cinema and finding a parking space when everything was full; it’s going late to the store to buy something and find it still open; it’s asking that person you like on a date and get a “yes”; is to cook that food you’ve never made before and everyone congratulates you because they like it; etc.

There is an important part of not giving up and not taking anything for granted and we may be tempted to say that the important thing is to try but remembering the wise Yoda ” Do or do not. There is no try.”, we must go beyond having faith in what we are doing. When we really want something, we must have a positive thought towards it, really believe that we will get it, put all the desire and commitment, and then give it all we have, not just a try.

It is taking the risk of going to the door of the movie theater and not parking several blocks before; it is daring to leave the house knowing that the store is usually closed at that time; it is daring to take the step of asking that person out on a date (and maybe you have to insist); it is watching cooking tutorials, asking and trying until the food turns out the way you want it to. It is not giving up and not giving anything for lost.

Is easy to say but hard to do. Although a good dose of luck is always necessary, we must not forget that a miracle is something that happens all the time.
